Extensive upgrade works on the buildings were well underway when we were engaged to assist with the exterior spaces. Our client wanted to ensure interior and exterior spaces flowed seamlessly and any opportunities for learning in the landscape were captured. So we held many workshops to gain an understanding of the users requirements. These workshops included both the staff and students. We did surveys and spent time in the school yard getting to know the pupils and their requirements. The outcome was a master plan that turned the school back to the Taruheru River, providing educational opportunities within the exterior spaces along with outdoor learning space. The car parks included water sensitive urban design measures. Stage one, the main entrance, has been constructed with the rest of the masterplan to be developed in the future.
